To say I struggle with what to read next when I finish a book is not quite the same as when my kids say it. Typically, my students are lost in a sea of books they know little to nothing about and don't even know where to begin. For me, however, I have a hard time deciding what to read next of the literally millions of books out there that I would read. Because unlike too many of my students, I will give any book a chance. So as I was thinking of what to do for my reading this year, I've been inundated by many things. I've been sent that book challenge list that's been going around Facebook and Pinterest many times by loving friends. Combine this with a book I've been reading in bits and pieces,
120 Banned Books, that makes me want to read nearly every book they've highlighted and the censorship debate with
The Interview and I finally settled on an idea- a method to my book selection for this year. I'm going to read and blog about banned books and censorship. I'll use books that are highlighted in the above-mentioned book and also add any that I encounter in new controversies. I'll currently be reading them in no particular order, though I'll ask my students and my readers (if I get any) to help guide my quest. The books I teach that are on banned books lists like those from the ALA will definitely be featured here since I reread those each year with my students.
